Kerr Hall Crawlspace Slab Repair
Concrete removal and reinforcement preparation were coordinated with engineering review before slab restoration at Kerr Hall.
Delta Structural Technology completed slab repair work in the Kerr Hall crawlspace. The repair involved removal of existing concrete, preparation of reinforcing steel, and coordination of reinforcement tie-ins, forming, and placement. The project illustrates how a localized slab intervention depends on resolving the exposed condition before the repair is enclosed by formwork.

Project challenge
The existing concrete and rebar required further preparation as the repair developed. The engineer needed to review the exposed area before forming and pouring, including the extent of concrete removal and the condition of the reinforcement. This made the excavation of the repair area a technical hold point, with the exposed substrate determining readiness for the following operations.
Project approach
The repair sequence identified chipping back the slab, exposing and cleaning reinforcement, and preparing the steel for coupling and coating. Forming and concrete placement were to follow the engineer’s review of those conditions. FRP design and formwork design were also part of the coordination discussed for the slab work. The approach linked physical preparation with engineering decisions at the open repair area.
Delivery and coordination
Delta coordinated the work with Vaughn Construction and the reviewing engineer. The correspondence emphasized keeping a crew on the work through completion and arranging inspection before the slab was formed and poured. That coordination connected the construction sequence with the need to verify the repair boundary and reinforcing-steel condition while both remained visible.
Project significance
Kerr Hall illustrates the importance of inspection at the right stage in a concrete repair. Reinforcement preparation and the extent of removal need to be resolved before replacement concrete conceals the area. The project’s technical lesson is to connect those field conditions with the forming and placement sequence.
