Concrete Beam Strengthening
Flexure and shear added to a member that has to stay exactly where it is.
Delta Structural Technology has the experience and possesses innovative technologies that are required to address reinforced concrete evaluation and long term rehabilitation within structures subjected to damage and deterioration. Structures are subjected to differing environmental exposure leading to corrosion damage, chemical exposure, load demands, and facility processes. Armed with the experience to properly identify the root cause of deterioration and failures within various environments, Delta provides the right repair methodology, high performance materials, and qualified technicians to execute projects safely, on time, and on budget.
Each structural member poses unique challenges regarding repair strategies. Whether your structure is experiencing extensive embedded steel corrosion or cracking under dynamic loads, we provide a toolbox of proprietary technologies that will provide successful repair strategies.

What a beam is strengthened for
A beam that is short of capacity is almost never short of it everywhere. The design work is deciding which of the two problems is in front of you — the beam cannot carry the moment, or the beam cannot carry the shear — and then whether the answer is strength, which composite supplies, or stiffness, which it does not. Where stiffness is what is missing, the section is enlarged and new distribution ribs tie neighbouring beams together instead.

The load changed. The beam did not, and cannot.
- 01
Flexural Enhancement
Negative and positive moment enhancement, on beams carrying more than they were designed for.
- 02
Shear Strengthening
Shear capacity added where the existing stirrups are insufficient or have corroded.
- 03
Construction Errors
Supplement steel that was cut for a penetration, or placed wrong.
- 04
Near Surface Mounted Bars
Carbon rods set into the cover where an externally bonded sheet cannot be protected or anchored.
- 05
Section Enlargement
Where a beam needs stiffness rather than strength, the section is enlarged and new distribution ribs connect three or more beams.
- 06
Fire Protection
The finished system covered with a UL rated fire coating where the occupancy requires one.
