Delegated Design Services
The part of the design the Engineer of Record hands over, and what comes back.
On a strengthening project the Engineer of Record carries the structure, but the composite system itself is normally engineered by the specialist who installs it. That is delegated design: a defined scope handed down, engineered and sealed by someone else, and returned as a submittal for the Engineer of Record to accept. The Engineer of Record is rarely an FRP strengthening engineer and does not have to be, which is the whole reason the scope is delegated in the first place. Delta's design team works with the project Engineer of Record to reach a design build solution that meets the project's requirements, with the strengthening design sealed through independent structural engineers rather than produced in house and self-approved.
How it runs on a Delta project
One party engineers the system and a different party accepts it. That separation is the point.
Where the responsibility sits
The division of responsibility is set by the contract documents on each project rather than by a general statement on a web page. What does not change is that the strengthening design carries the seal of an independent structural engineer, and that Delta's design team works to the requirement the Engineer of Record sets rather than around it. Where a project has already been assessed as non-feasible, Delta can often help solve it through an alternate approach rather than returning the same answer.
