222 Loyola Joist Strengthening
Underside joist reinforcement integrating surface preparation, bond verification, and fire protection.
Delta Structural Technology completed the 222 Loyola CFRP project. The scope focused on carbon fiber reinforcement at the bottoms of slab joists, together with surface preparation, bond verification, and fire protection. The project shows how reinforcement installation and its protective treatment can be planned as a coordinated scope.

Project challenge
The reinforcement had to be applied to existing joist surfaces, making substrate condition and adhesive bond central to the work. The recorded requirements included removal of irregularities and treatment of uneven surfaces before application. Access through system scaffolding was also included in the planned scope.
Project approach
The January 2023 reinforcement package referenced construction sheets S1.0 and S2.8. Its specified system combined Sika CarboDur reinforcement with Sikadur 30 adhesive and Sikacrete 213F fire-protection mortar, subject to approval of equivalent materials.
Delivery and coordination
The scope called for pull-off verification of the prepared concrete and application in accordance with manufacturer requirements. It also included protection of adjacent work, cleaning, and demobilization. The explicit fire-protection item distinguished this project from scopes in which a finish or protective layer was excluded.
Project significance
The joist-strengthening scope connected substrate preparation, bonded reinforcement and fire protection. Planning those activities together addressed both the installation surface and the protective treatment around the external reinforcement.
