Delta Structural Technology completed concrete repairs at a Cargill Meat Solutions facility in coordination with Northline Construction. The work was organized around weekend access, with each repair area selected and protected to fit the plant’s production schedule.

Project challenge
Weekday production limited when construction could take place. The repair plan therefore divided the scope into areas that could be addressed during a designated weekend rotation. Each mobilization needed nearby staging, protection around the selected repair area and a defined route for debris disposal. The facility environment also influenced the choice of reinforcement-cleaning method.
Project approach
The repair scope followed structural drawings issued by Schneider Structural Engineering. Delta’s sequence called for removing unsound concrete, mechanically cleaning reinforcement, applying a corrosion inhibitor and bonding agent, and restoring the original profile with approved high-strength repair mortar. Forms or hand-applied patching were to be used as required by the repair geometry.
Delivery and coordination
The crew plan used wire-brush wheels on electric grinders for reinforcement cleaning because abrasive blasting would require more substantial containment in the working environment. Protection systems were included for each weekend’s repair locations, and removed concrete was to be collected and disposed of at the end of each shift. Northline and Cargill coordinated the available work periods, staging and debris-disposal arrangements.
Project significance
The Cargill project illustrates the connection between structural repair and production planning. Dividing the work into contained weekend areas allowed the repair sequence to be organized around the facility’s operating pattern. Delta’s contribution combined concrete restoration with repeated mobilization, local protection and work-area cleanup appropriate to an industrial food-processing setting.
