Huntsman F4 repairs combined field assessment, concrete restoration, reinforcing-steel treatment and FRP application in an integrated sequence.
Delta Structural Technology completed the Huntsman F4 repair project at Port Neches. The proposed construction sequence combined inspection of the concrete, removal of failing material, reinforcement treatment, repair mortar and FRP. The package was developed as an emergency repair response, with field inspection and measurement intended to establish the extent of the work before final quantities were fixed.

Project challenge
The initial information consisted of layout sheets identifying repair areas. Delta identified the need to inspect, sound and measure the concrete in the field before producing a precise assessment. Deterioration could extend beyond what the initial sheets showed. The repair therefore needed an orderly transition from visible conditions to removal limits and preparation of the remaining substrate.
Project approach
The proposed method began with staging and inspection, followed by removal of failing concrete. Exposed reinforcement was to be cleaned and treated with corrosion inhibitors before repair mortar placement. Delta then specified hand grinding to prepare the concrete for epoxy and FRP. Crack injection was included for cracks above the proposed threshold, followed by the composite application, UV coating and final cleaning.
Delivery and coordination
Delta worked with Huntsman’s maintenance team using the plant’s area sheets as the starting point. The proposal made the field inspection and measurement step explicit, separating an early repair budget from a fully quantified construction scope. The sequence also recognized that reinforcement could follow only after concrete restoration and preparation created the surface required for the FRP installation.
Project significance
Huntsman F4 illustrates a disciplined response to urgent concrete deterioration. The repair concept integrated assessment, substrate restoration, steel treatment and composite protection rather than moving directly to the visible finish. It provides an example of how an initial industrial repair request can be organized into a coherent sequence while accounting for the conditions revealed during field investigation.
