Tetra Pak Sikeston Column Replacement
Industrial support replacement combining connected steel, a reinforced concrete pedestal and glass fiber impact protection.
Delta Structural Technology completed a column-replacement project at Tetra Pak in Sikeston. The scope combined a new steel support with a reinforced concrete pedestal and glass fiber protection around the pedestal. Developed through CBRE’s project team, it integrated steel connection work, concrete reconstruction and composite impact protection within one localized industrial repair.

Project challenge
The replacement detail required the new support to connect to both the floor and the beam above. The base also needed a reinforced concrete pedestal that could receive an impact-protection wrap. This created a sequence in which steel positioning and connections had to be resolved before the surrounding pedestal was formed and placed.
Project approach
The proposed sequence began by recessing the floor at the pedestal location and installing a weld plate beneath the support. The steel pole would be welded to the base plate and bolted to the upper beam. Rebar dowels and a reinforcing cage were then to be installed around the support before placement of the concrete pedestal. The final treatment wrapped the pedestal in glass fiber reinforced polymer for impact protection and included painting of the pedestal and pole.
Delivery and coordination
The scope separated the structural steel connection steps from the concrete and composite finishing steps. The general contractor was assigned staging space, debris disposal, permits and required testing. This division connected site readiness with Delta’s replacement sequence. The project relied on orderly progression from the support connections to reinforcement, concrete placement and protection of the completed pedestal.
Project significance
The Sikeston project demonstrates composite materials used alongside a conventional steel-and-concrete replacement detail. The glass fiber served a pedestal-protection purpose within a broader repair scope. Its distinctive feature is the combination of a new connected steel support, reinforced concrete base and impact-resistant composite treatment at the same location.
