Trinity Medical Center
Location-specific carbon fiber strips reinforced the slab around Trinity Hospital’s Elevator 7 sump-pit opening.
Delta Structural Technology completed FRP work associated with Elevator 7’s sump pit at Trinity Hospital. The strengthening detail addressed a new slab opening with carbon fiber reinforcement arranged around its perimeter. Different reinforcement treatments on the north side and the remaining sides reflected the location-specific nature of the design.

Project challenge
The new opening introduced a defined interruption in the existing slab next to a concrete wall. The reinforcement needed to follow the detailed arrangement around that geometry. The design did not treat every side identically, so the crew’s layout had to preserve the direction, position, and extent of the specified strips.
Project approach
The composite shop drawing placed carbon reinforcement on top of the slab around the new opening. It differentiated the north-side strip from the strips on the south, east, and west sides and indicated the fiber direction and required extensions. Supporting system notes addressed surface preparation, materials, and engineering submittals. This combined a precise local layout with the requirements for installing an externally bonded system.
Delivery and coordination
The scope was coordinated as added work within the medical-center project. The reviewed drawing package provided the basis for distinguishing the individual perimeter locations and the relationship to the existing wall. Installation planning needed to retain that detail so that the composite placement corresponded to the designed arrangement around the sump-pit opening.
Project significance
Trinity Hospital illustrates a focused slab-opening reinforcement detail. The technical lesson is that a perimeter application may require different treatment on different sides. Clear layout information connects those distinctions with field placement and keeps the strengthening tied to the geometry of the opening.
