Carbon fiber strengthening for Vinson and Elkins, integrating surface preparation and an acrylic coating over the cured composite.
Delta Structural Technology completed composite strengthening for the Vinson and Elkins project. The scope developed for Harvey Builders addressed concrete members identified on structural sheet S3-01. It combined application of the carbon fiber system with an acrylic protective coating, linking reinforcement placement and finishing within the same installation package.

Project challenge
The work needed to follow the designated structural locations and provide access to their concrete surfaces. The carbon fiber treatment and subsequent coating were separate stages with different readiness requirements. The reinforcing system had to be placed on properly prepared concrete before the cured composite could receive its protective finish.
Project approach
Delta’s scope included mobilization, staging and system scaffolding. The receiving concrete surfaces were to be prepared by hand-grinding, followed by layout and application of the composite reinforcement according to the construction drawings. An acrylic coating was specified over the cured system. Shop drawings and product submittals supported the installation, connecting the material package with the identified structural members.
Delivery and coordination
Harvey Builders was the contractor named in the project scope. Delta’s responsibilities included reinforcement submittals and the personnel, materials and equipment needed for its work. Staging, access and suitable surface conditions supported the installation sequence. The coating step followed curing of the composite, requiring the reinforcement and finish tasks to be coordinated rather than treated as one immediate application.
Project significance
The project illustrates a composite strengthening scope that includes its final protective treatment. Its distinguishing feature is the sequence from concrete preparation to bonded reinforcement and then coating of the cured system. The case highlights how a finish requirement can be integrated into the structural installation package.
