The 2016 scope involved enlarging concrete column sections, with particular attention to the vertical reinforcement and its embedment. Delta’s constructability questions prompted revised or additional details from Structural DesignGroup, connecting the reinforcement installation with the structural drawings used to define the enlarged members.

Project challenge
The initial information did not clearly establish all vertical steel embedment details for the different column configurations. One detail also lacked the vertical bar diameter. These omissions affected the ability to define the reinforcing work accurately. The project needed the section-enlargement geometry and the reinforcement connections to be coordinated before the installation package could be finalized.
Project approach
Delta reviewed the column details on sheet S3.02 and asked the structural engineer to clarify the bar diameters and embedment depths. Structural DesignGroup responded with revised and additional sheets. The scope centered on section enlargement and reinforcement detailing, making the connection between new steel and the existing column an essential part of the strengthening concept.
Delivery and coordination
The correspondence joined Delta’s engineered-solutions and construction leadership with the responsible structural engineer. An internal review was arranged after the additional details arrived. This process allowed the questions to be considered before committing to a construction approach, and ensured that the strengthening proposal reflected the engineer’s detail rather than an assumption drawn from a typical column repair.
Project significance
The Bobby Hotel project is a useful example of the design clarification needed for section-enlargement work. The size of an enlarged member is only part of its detail; reinforcement diameter and embedment define how the added material is connected.
