Cleveland Airport Joist Strengthening

Delta Structural Technology completed joist-strengthening work at Cleveland Airport. The revised work package focused on shear reinforcement at the ends of existing concrete joists, with access planning coordinated alongside the FRP installation scope.

Project challenge
The revised scope identified eighteen joists approximately ten inches deep and five inches wide. Each joist required strengthening over roughly ten feet at both ends. This concentrated the work at repeated end regions, making consistent access along the joists an important part of the installation plan. The project also required coordination with the airport’s working schedule.
Project approach
The March 2016 scope called for SCH-41 reinforcement at the joist end zones. Delta reviewed the drawing and material requirements together with the construction estimate, defining the areas that would receive the external strengthening. The reinforcement layout focused on shear demand at the joist ends, while the work plan addressed the repeated geometry across the group of members.
Delivery and coordination
Delta identified a complete, inspected scaffold system as a prerequisite for access and assigned its provision to the client. Electricity and removal of obstructions were also included in the coordination requirements. Internal review called attention to the airport schedule and the amount of access equipment needed, showing how work-area readiness and permitted working periods influenced the proposed delivery plan.
Project significance
The Cleveland Airport project illustrates the practical relationship between a localized strengthening detail and the access needed to install it repeatedly. A clear joist-end scope, defined reinforcement system and coordinated working platform supported the repair approach. Delta brought these requirements together for structural work within transportation infrastructure.
