Houston Airport Marriott Slab Strengthening
Carbon-FRP strengthening on both faces of a hotel lobby slab.
Delta Structural Technology completed slab-strengthening work in the lobby of the Houston Airport Marriott. The project used carbon-FRP reinforcement on both the top and underside of the existing slab, with different strip arrangements for the two surfaces.

Project challenge
The lobby strengthening layout required work around existing columns and the geometry of the floor plate. Top-surface reinforcement and underside reinforcement occupied different locations and used different widths and layer details. Coordinating access to both faces of the slab was therefore central to organizing the installation.
Project approach
Fyfe’s February 2015 drawings specified Tyfo SCH-41 reinforcement. The top-slab detail used twenty-four-inch-wide strips with a fifteen-foot first layer and an eleven-foot second layer. The bottom-slab layout used a single layer in forty-eight-inch-wide strips. The drawings identified the primary fiber directions and related the reinforcement to the existing column layout.
Delivery and coordination
The installation notes called for abrasive surface preparation, removal of dust and debris, epoxy priming and placement of pre-saturated reinforcement. Seams and edges were finished with thickened Tyfo S epoxy. Delta’s coordination with Fibrwrap addressed the lobby location, access equipment and the top-and-bottom application scope. The specified finish was thickened epoxy, completing the defined composite treatment.
Project significance
The Houston Airport Marriott project illustrates a slab retrofit with reinforcement distributed across both faces of an existing floor. Its distinct top and bottom details show how an installation package can respond to different strengthening locations within one lobby. Delta’s role brought those details into a coordinated construction scope for a hospitality facility.
